FAQ

Salsa on 2 means dancing salsa in a way that emphasises the second and sixth beat of the music, more than the other counts.

The main difference between salsa on 1 and salsa on 2 lies in the timing of the steps. In salsa on 1, dancers step forward with their left foot on the first beat of the bar and turn on the first and and fifth count. In salsa on 2, dancers step forward with the right foot on the first beat of the bar and turn on the second and sixth count.

Salsa on 1 is often considered easier for beginners because it aligns with the natural phrasing of the music. Salsa on 2, however, offers a deeper musical connection that may appeal more to salsa enthusiasts and music lovers. Both styles have their advantages, and being good at both can make you a more versatile dancer.

Salsa on 2 allows dancers to connect more deeply with the rhythm of specific instruments like the bass, congas, and cowbell, creating a more intricate dance style. Salsa on 2 makes it easier to dance with various partners around the world, especially in places where this style is popular.

The time to learn salsa varies, but typically, it takes 3 to 6 months to grasp basic steps and partner work. Reaching an intermediate level often requires 1 to 2 years of regular practice, while advanced proficiency can take 3 to 5 years. At our dance school, you’ll find the structured guidance and supportive environment needed to learn salsa quickly and easily.

Salsa on 2 can be challenging due to its unique timing and emphasis on musicality but with consistent practice and quality instruction, it’s very achievable. With some practice, the dance becomes more smooth and laid-back than other styles. At our dance school, you’ll learn Salsa on 2 in a way that’s rewarding and enjoyable.
